Scope of the Project
What is the aim of the MAXMINDS project?
MAXMINDS 2.0 focuses on supporting underserved displaced scholars around the world.
MAXMINDS 2.0 is a program dedicated to supporting scholars who are in acute danger of displacement by war or were recently displaced by war or natural disasters. The program welcomes participants of all nationalities who face limited access to resources and institutional support.
This initiative offers a range of support, including:
- One-on-one mentoring with current or former Max Planck researchers, tailored to individual needs.
- Guidance on finding and applying for positions, scholarships, fellowships and research stays.
- Feedback on CVs, applications and research proposals.
- Connections within academic networks.
- Information on fellowships and opportunities outside of MAXMINDS.
MAXMINDS 2.0 does not provide funding.
Building on the successful MAXMINDS 1.0 program, which was funded by the MPG Diversity Excellence Fund from August 2023 to August 2025, MAXMINDS 2.0 extends support to researchers affected by crises. Its predecessor focused on aiding students impacted by the devastating earthquakes in Turkey and Syria on February 6, 2023, through mentorship and internships.
The first round of MAXMINDS 2.0 that took place in 2025/26 has involved researchers from 11 Max Planck Institutes and has succeeded in providing guidance and support to eligible scientists. Read more about the round here.
